Daily consumption of one fresh Hass avocado daily (140g) reduced abdominal adiposity (belly fat) among females but had no effects on insulin production or peripheral insulin sensitivity.
In a group of overweight adults, consumption of one Hass avocado a day (175g for men and 140g for women) resulted in a decrease in visceral fat, but in women only. There was no change between groups in men. There were no changes in insulin resistance, insulin sensitivity or insulin production.
Practice Tips
- Avocados need not be avoided in people who are overweight
- Including a small avocado a day in the diet may have metabolic benefits, particularly in women
