This pilot study suggests eating avocados may enhance skin elasticity and firmness of facial skin in women.
Thirty-nine women aged 27-73 years, with fair to light brown skin, were randomly assigned to eat one avocado a day or stick with their usual diet for eight weeks. Facial skin was assessed for elasticity, firmness, pigmentation, sebum and hydration.
Compared to the control group, the avocado group experienced a significant increase in forehead skin firmness and elasticity. There were no changes in other skin measures.
Practice Tips
- Encourage regular avocado consumption for skin health, and ‘beauty from within’.
- Increase daily consumption amounts through practical ideas for including avocado in meals and snacks.
